The objectives of this project are to provide experimental heat transfer and two-phase flow data applicable to the initial stages of blowdown in a full-length electrically simulated PWR fuel bundle. Experiments were performed on the heat transfer in a simulated fuel bundle starting from the initiation of several controlled transients until the critical heat flux (CHF) condition was reached. The data thus obtained were analyzed with the COBRA subchannel code and with two transient thermal-hydraulic codes that were developed under EPRI sponsorship. The report describes the results of the experiments and includes discussions of the test procedures, error analysis, and preliminary interpretation.
