摘要
The classical mathematical theory of stresses caused by an elliptic void in a solid has been adapted to predict the progress of a crack in a weld and to establish the acoustic emission (AE) behaviour associated with its growth. The predicted course of AE is compared with experimental results on welds in a structural low-alloy steel having a chemical basis of 0. 08-2Mn-0. 5Mo and used to develop a criterion for susceptibility to cracking.
