Corrosion of embedded parts of hydraulic structures can lead to substantial disturbance of the normal operation of mechanical equipment. Therefore it is necessary to take special measures to prevent their corrosion. The service life of the majority of structural elements should be commensurate with the design operating time of the structure. It is difficult to carry out repair works on the majority of nondetachable structural elements, since they must be performed on site, including under water. Cathodic protection of embedded parts is convenient and technically simple to accomplish. In this case all technical operations can be performed without the use of divers. The service life of the protection is not limited. Systematic monitoring of the effect of protection is possible by means of instruments located above water on the structure or from above-water inspection platforms without descending under the water.
