Generative numerical control is a new CAM technology wherein numerical control part programs is automatically generated from CAD solid model. The system finds a replacement of manual components of the process planning and interactive programming procedures with an expert system that reflects the manufacturer's preferred practices. It captures the decision making processes in a definitive set of rules. A machining program is created by assembling all individual operations. The application of NC programming in the manufacture of Sikorsky helicopters was proven to be a success and future developments for wider range of features are being studied.
