SOME ASPECTS OF THE SURFACE PROTECTION OF NUCLEAR PLANTS.

In this paper the special requirements of surface coatings for the nuclear power industry are described, three main types of coating being considered: surface coatings for contaminated areas, surface coatings for high radiation level areas, and surface coatings of the metal free type. Some examples are given of the development work which has been carried out within U. K. Government laboratories to establish the principles of paint formulation, as well as a review of the suitability of existing types of surface coatings for the protection of nuclear plants and laboratories.
