A collection of 32 articles by different authors, with a preface by Erwin Fruehbauer, the Austrian Minister for Transport, is devoted to the description and discussion of a most modern system of hydroelectric power stations and reservoirs in the area of the Zemmbach valley in the Zillertaler Alps, built between 1965 and 1971. An introductory article by F Nyvelt gives a survey of the entire project whose present capacity is 637. 5 MW but can be increased. the project consist of several reservoirs, long-distance pressure tunnels, the Rosshag and Mayrhofen power stations, and various installations. Further articles describe and analyze the project from various aspects: cost accounting, environmental, problems of construction of the dams, tunnels, power stations, reservoirs and pumping installations, turbines, pumps, various facilities for geological hydrological, material testing problems, electrical installations and power transmission lines, remote control, the use of a process computer, investment and financial problems, the use of land, and measurements of various data. The articles contain many illustrations and diagrams, including a large 1 to 50,000 color map of the area.
