摘要
Sulphation rate measurements have been generally accepted as an average index of atmospheric pollution by sulphur compounds in ambient environment. Electro deposited lead dioxide solid sensors which give average concentration levels of SO//2 and fluorides over long averaging periods have been employed for extensive survey of both sulphation and fluoridation rates. The results of the survey carried out in and around Chembur-Trombay region of the Bombay metropolis and the nearby Elephanta Island during the period 1977-78 are presented with the help of concentration isopleths and their seasonal variations with respect to the prevalent wind direction are discussed. The probability of contribution by specific emission sources to the observed levels in concentrations are detailed. The trends in the air quality with reference to SO//2 over the period 1976-1980 as computed from sulphation rates are also presented and discussed for selected sites.
