摘要
Many businesses rely on their computer systems to increase productivity, lower operating costs, expedite operations and promote efficiency. An occasional breakdown may prove inconvenient but nonetheless tolerable. But for many others, those whose operations depend on the reliability of their computing systems, any breakdown, however brief, can be critical. For them, the solution is a fault-tolerant computer, one which continues operating despite a serious failure within the system. AT&T's StarServer FT fault-tolerant computer supplies just this kind of protection in a mid-range computer offering fault tolerance and data protection on a UNIX System V base. Customers can move their existing UNIX system applications onto it without reprogramming. For customers currently using proprietary fault-tolerant systems, the StarServer FT computer provides an alternative based on open standards. This allows greater interoperability with existing systems and standards while easing the porting and expansion of customer applications.
