摘要：
The use of structural steel for the renovation and expansion of Mary mount Middle school in Manhattan to meet the challenges of time, space and budget is discussed. A masonary bearing wall and a steel frame is used to provide a column-free space and skylights for the ground floor commons room. The renovation project required fabrication of approximately 70W12×45s to support the existing five-story brick bearing wall. The steel is coated with spray applied fire-protective coating to give it a two-hour fire rating.
