CONTROLLED RE-CIRCULATION OF AIR AT WEARMOUTH COLLIERY.

This paper deals with the planning and installation of the first scheme of controlled recirculation of district air flow in a British colliery. The special problems of ventilating the increasingly distant faces of the undersea mines in the North East Area of British Coal are outlined and the alternative solutions briefly mentioned. The advantages of using a system of controlled recirculation of air are discussed, together with safety features which are considered necessary.
