Improved compatibility of disperse dye mixtures using leveling agent-assessment through the measurement of chromaticity coordinates

Polyester fabric was dyed with a mixture of three disperse dyes having close hues in equal proportions, in the absence and in the presence of a nonionic leveling agent, at different depths. Color of the dyed samples was measured in terms of chromaticity coordinates on spectrophotometer attached to an IBM personal computer and the compatibility of dyes in mixture was assessed qualitatively from the nature of plots of chromaticity coordinates (y against x). The technique was found useful to indicate an improvement in compatibility of dyes at higher depths in the presence of a nonionic leveling agent.
