The Automobiles Citroen foundry uses a cold-blast cupola operating in campaigns several weeks long with no withdrawal between melts. The output is from 10 to 12 tons of iron per hour for one, two, or three shifts. The special features are: fabricated copper blast nozzles cooled by circulating water; powerful trickle cooling of the unlined plates above the nozzles; enlarged crucible allowing for a thick lining. Repairs are almost completely eliminated, with no change in the consumption of materials or of coke or in the metallurgical quality of the iron from the prior situation.
