Modeling the rotating behavior of an augmented turbofan engine

A digital computer model was developed to simulate post-stall operation of an augmented turbofan engine. The model was based on stage-by-stage dynamic response code. A new method was developed to model the dynamic flow at the fan exit properly. Nozzle minimum area and afterburner-fuel transient simulation were conducted to induce the post-instability. The operation and the sequences of events leading to rotating stall were investigated. The typical behavior and performance of the turbofan engine during the rotating stall were obtained. A significant parameter, which may predict the nonrecoverable stall event was found.
