Workbench for digital products. The ongoing globalization of industry and commerce and the enormous Internet boom are forcing many companies in the production industry to invest ever-increasing amounts of money in the IT area. The constant devising of new application scenarios by resourceful marketing strategists among IT suppliers are aimed at strengthening this trend. However, the anticipated return on investment often fails to materialize. The profitable utilization of the new production factor information calls for an associative information system that provides electronic support for the product development business process in its entirety. © 2000 Carl Hanser Verlag.
