Piezoelectric ceramic components made of Lead Zirconate Titanates (PZT) are driving several technological innovations in the automobile industry. PZT components from Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC) are increasingly being used for various vehicles for enhancing safety, performance, energy-efficiency, and comfort. PZT sensors are used under hood detecting engine knocking, PZT transducers in the gas tank measuring the fuel level, PZT actuators operating valves in pneumatically adjustable driver's seats, PZT ultrasonic transducers on the front, rear, and side of the car, and PZT generators in the wheels. Piezoelectric materials can also be used as passive sensors like accelerometers, generators like spark igniters, transducers and active sensors like fuel level sensors, and actuators like valves for fuel injection systems.
