Pretreatment of jute fiber and the mechanical properties of jute fiber mat reinforced polypropylene

A new method of pretreatment of jute fiber is put forward, where MPP emulsion was used in the pre-treatment. Several issues were studied including the effects of pretreatment of jute fiber with alkali solution on the moisture and thermal stability as well as the effects of pretreatment of jute fiber with alkali solution and combination of alkali solution and MPP emulsion on the mechanical properties of the jute fiber mat reinforced polypropylene. The results show that the moisture and thermal stability of the jute fiber are improved and the mechanical properties of jute fiber mat reinforced polypropylene are obviously increased after treating with alkali solution. The mechanical properties of the composites are even better after treating with combination of alkali solution and MPP emulsion.
