The very first Offshore Technology Conference was held on May 19-21 1969, in the new Convention and Exhibit Center, Houston. The conference aimed to showcase a major forum of national importance and scope for the dissemination of technology related to offshore resources and environment. The very first such event drew 4,200 people, with 26 technical sessions and 125 technical papers as well as 200 exhibitors. The event saw the presentation of topics such as the economics of oil and gas as well as about the oil resources of the US at that time. Technical sessions included subsea operations, marine mineral exploration, positioning and vessel motion, completion and drilling, geophysics, mooring, metallurgical marine structural and operational problems as well. Since the era was about the first oil crisis in the US, the event recognized that oil has become a commodity of price higher than ever before. OTC remains today as the world's foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection;
