Influence of heating and cooling load reduction in buildings on energy efficiency of heating and cooling systems

Traditionally, heating and cooling load reductions in buildings and energy efficiency improvements in heating and cooling systems have been tackled independently. Although the separate efforts can create synergy toward energy efficiency in many cases, they may create unwanted tradeoffs in some cases. This study modeled a middle-size office building and with separate heating and cooling systems to reveal the influence of heating and cooling load reduction on the energy efficiency of the heating and cooling system. The simulation results revealed that heating load reduction in a building strongly affects the energy efficiency of the heating system. © 2021 Architectural Institute of Japan. All rights reserved.
