Indian Naval Chief, Admiral Arun Prakash, has disclosed the Indian Navy's acquisition programs for the future. The shipbuilding program ensures that the Indian Navy's goal of maintaining a 140 ship navy will be met. The Indian Government has also approved two aircraft carrier projects, namely, PR 1143.4 aircraft carrying cruiser Admiral Gorshkov, and a locally designed carrier, Air Defense Ship (ADS). Negotiations for three Talwar class frigates, possibly with modifications, including a universal launcher for Brahmos and Klub missiles are ongoing with Russia. Negotiations for the transfer of the USS Trenton and associated support equipment like LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion) hovercraft for 46M USD are at an advanced stage. Indian Navy has also planned to build 24 conventional submarines, under programs P-75A and P-75B. The country is also working on to build a universal launcher that can fire both the Brahmos and the Klub family of missiles.
