The effect of pulse modulation of surface acoustic waves (SAWs) on the acoustoelectric current quantization through a one-dimensional channel is investigated. We found that the pulse modulation is effective in eliminating the effects of cross-talk and problems associated with reflected SAWs that are the sources of uncontrollable potential fluctuations in the channel. The drawback of this method is that the short pulse length (<650 ns) required to achieve cross-talk elimination degrades the quality of the quantized current plateaus. We calculate the expected current from calibrations of the transducer passband and acoustoelectric current as a function of transducer power and find similar behavior. © 2006 American Institute of Physics;
