Surface treatment of SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors by combustion method

Owing to its poor water resistance, the application of SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors is limited seriously. In this paper, a rapid combustion method was introduced into the surface treatment of SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, photoluminescence spectrophotometry and pH measurements were employed to characterize the treated and untreated phosphors. Experimental results showed that a compact layer was coated on the surface of SrAl2O4:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors, which effectively improved the water resistance of phosphors.
