The shake table test of a 1:2 scaled three-story high strength steel frame with Y-eccentric braces (Y-HSS-EBFs) was carried out to research the seismic performance of the structure, which can be applied to seismic design and application in seismic area of Y-HSS-EBFs. El Centro wave, Taft wave and Lanzhou wave were used in the test from frequent earthquake level of 7 degree intensity to rare earthquake level of 9 degree intensity. The dynamic properties, acceleration responses and displacement responses, etc, were obtained from the test. The result indicates that the stiffness of the structure degrades slightly during the frequent earthquakes and degrades obviously during the rare earthquakes. The shear deformation is the main deformation for the structure during the vibration process. The maximum inter-story drift of the structure is 1/869 during the frequent earthquakes and the maximum inter-story drift is 1/129 during the rare earthquakes, which meets the demands of inter-story drift limitation in the seismic design code of buildings. Y-HSS-EBFs have good seismic performance and can satisfy the 'three level' seismic fortification requirements. At last, the inter-story horizontal seismic shear force obtained based on the equivalent base shear method is higher than that of the test result, which indicates that equivalent base shear method can be safely employed to calculate the seismic force of Y-HSS-EBFs. ©, 2015, Science Press.
