Det Norske Veritas (DNV), one of the leading quality assurance and consulting organizations in Norway has been awarded a contract by the University of Oslo to supply advanced engineering analysis software for helping it to relocate the Oseberg Ship, a maritime tourist attraction in the country. The company undertook a project to develop an engineering software, focusing on the starboard side of the ship. There were four significant objectives of the project, such as calculating the stress on the ship, while it is displayed, deciding on the requirement of additional support,, type of support required during transportation to another location, and estimate the risk of damage during such relocation. The company used a finite element analysis (FEA) software program, called Sesam, to perform the task of relocating the ship.
