Reminiscences from the files of {A. Francis Turner}

The views of A. Francis Turner on his experiences in the OSA board meeting, are presented. In the meeting,there was John Strong's 1936 JOSA article on evaporating calcium fluoride for antireflection purposes. L.I. Estein's article on Herpin theory as applied to periodically stratified media was a milestone in thin-film research. Ivan was working in Turner's lab at Bausch and Lomb and was doing the first thin film computer programming. Ivan did their payroll programming in return for use of their computer for thin film work. P.J. Leurgans was working on the first application of admittance methods to thin-film work. Leurgans had been working in Turner's lab but had left at the time of that publication and was on a stipendium from Bausch and Lomb.
