The mechanism of coastal urban flooding is complex due to the impact of multiple flood drivers such as heavy rainfall; coastal high tide level and river flooding. Therefore; it is of great significance to effectively reveal the occurrence process and mechanism of coastal urban Compound flooding for the scientific development of flood control strategies. This study investigates the method of constructing a physical model for simulating Compound flooding in coastal cities. The Compound flood Simulation physical model and numerical model were constructed with the typical urban area of Meishe River outlet in Haikou City as an example. Based on the physical and numerical models; an experimental study of physical model for simulating Compound flood driven by three factors of heavy rainfall—high tide level-river flooding was carried out; and the accuracy of the model was evaluated. The results show that the physical model constructed in this study can accurately simulate the Compound flood; and the Nash efficiency coefficient values of both model calibration and Validation are greater than 0.9; and the relative error values are all less than 10%; so the model has high accuracy. © 2024 International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation and China Water and Power Press.
