Various measures to get maximum benefits from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard, ISO 14001, for a voluntary environmental management system (EMS) are discussed. This standard deals with the the development and maintenance of environmental policy. It is suggested that to design the EMS that suits to the requirements, to choose the EMS representative widely, and apply the KISS principle when crafting the procedures. It is also recommended to outsource the work, if required.
