Aiming at the disadvantages of traditional multilevel inverters, such as numerous power devices and complex circuit structures. A modular dual-input switched-capacitor multilevel inverter is proposed with simple topology and lower number of switches. Series-parallel combination of voltage sources and capacitors can produce more voltage levels with the output voltage gain increased. At the same time, the capacitor voltage is balanced automatically. In this paper, the circuit structure, operation principle and PWM strategy of the inverter are presented firstly. Then, the principle of capacitor voltage self-balancing and capacitance parameters are analyzed. At last, simulation and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the feasibility and correctness of the multilevel inverter and its modulation strategy. © 2021, Solar Energy Periodical Office Co., Ltd.
