As a mature surface treatment technology, plasma spraying for substrate play an increasingly important role in surface-enhanced process due to its wide application range, high production efficiency and good quality. Meanwhile, more and more results demonstrated that ceramic coatings play a critical role in overall performance improvement and service lifetime extension of materials. This paper reviews the development of ceramic coatings prepared by conventional plasma spraying technique, including atmospheric plasma spraying, supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying, suspension plasma spraying, vacuum plasma spraying and low pressure plasma spraying. Then, the advantages and shortcomings of each preparation method have also been summarized. Finally, based on above contents, the future development of plasma sprayed ceramic coatings are prospected. © 2024 Cailiao Daobaoshe/ Materials Review. All rights reserved.
