摘要
Following the damage-control concept, a novel resilient steel column base composed of dog-bone weakened fuse plates connected to the upper and lower column segments by high-strength bolts was proposed in order to achieve rapid post-earthquake restoration. The out-of-plane restraint provided by the column flanges and stiffeners could limit buckling of the fuse plates and therefore improve the seismic performance. Cyclic loading tests were conducted on two such column bases based on the working mechanism and the hysteresis curves, skeleton curves, and energy dissipation were compared with the counterpart with unrestrained fuse plates. The results show that the column base has stable load-bearing, deformation and energy dissipation capacities, with the damage concentrated mainly in the fuse plates, while the upper and lower column segments remain basically elastic at inter-story drift angle of 5% . The column base can recover its original mechanical performance after replacing the damaged fuse plates. By restraining the fuse plates, the cumulative energy dissipation could be increased by 16% when the inter-story drift angle reaches 5% . The proposed innovative column base has excellent seismic performance and meanwhile allows for effective post-earthquake repair of steel structures. © 2023 Science Press. All rights reserved.
