Throughout history, the nature of professional engineering practice has constantly evolved, driven not only by evolution in technology and scientific knowledge but also by changes in the way in which our engineered solutions interact with society. As a consequence, there is a strong need for engineers to not only understand the changing nature of their profession but also be able to adapt to these changes. © 1988-2012 IEEE.
