Optics technology plays key role in Afghan war

The role of the optics technology in the war against Afghanistan was discussed. In this war U.S. armed forces used laser range-finders for establishing the coordinates of targets for weapons which were aimed using signals from global positioning system satellites. It was reported that more than 60% of the bombs dropped in Afghanistan were precision guided compared with 10% in the Persian Gulf war.
