The spatial nonlinear analysis of structural performance of the suspension bridge was carried out by using finite element program. Then; through the static loading test; the measured values of displacement were compared with the numerical results. The results show that the measured values are close to the simulation values; thus the finite element analysis method can accurately simulate the stress state; and it has high reliability in evaluating the mechanical properties of the flexible suspension bridge. All measured values are smaller than the simulation values; which indicates that the main cable has good mechanical properties. The main cable sag increment basically has linear relationship with the increment of mid-span loading and tension from 3L/8 and 5L/8 to L/2 section; with the geometric nonlinear characteristic being not outstanding. The geometric nonlinear characteristic is more outstanding from 3L/8 and 5L/8 to the end sections of the main cable. The mid-span loads and tension regarded when increasing unit sag gradually reduce in sections near L/4 and 3L/4 and gradually increase in sections near L/8 and 7L/8 and almost equal in sections near L/2; 3L/8; and; 5L/8;
