National Missile Defense (NMD), a high-profile program in the weapon system effectiveness arena, is discussed. The second Biennial Forum on Weapon System Effectiveness featured talks on the Navy's theater missile defense, the F-22 air superiority fighter, and the Land Warrior program. All the programs were integrated with weapon delivery, support infrastructure, maintenance, and warhead effectiveness. The DOD has developed the Advanced Joint Effectiveness Model (AJEM) to give both munition lethality/effectiveness analysts and platform vulnerability/survivability analysts a tool that will provide more realistic estimates of conventional ballistic threats against aircraft, missile, and mobile ground targets.
