A method for measuring the decoherence time of a harmonic oscillator was discussed by coupling it to a two-level system and detecting its level statistics. The method was based on a phase kick applied to the two-level system during its interaction with the oscillator. Phase kick was implemented by a laser that quasiresonantly coupled the ground state of the atom to a third atomic level. Results indicated that the proposed scheme represented a useful tool for measuring decoherence times in different physical systems undergoing Jaynes-Cummings interaction.
