Refineries and petrochemical plants have several options to efficiently and cost-effectively remove dissolved and dispersed hydrocarbons in waste streams. For instance, contaminants such as dispersed oil, BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and other toxic hydrocarbons can be removed by steam strippers and activated carbon.
