The surrounding free-field vibration induced by large shaking-table operation was studied with site measuring and analysis. It was shown that the foundation of the shaking table can be simplified as a single-DOF mass-spring-damper model, the foundation soil provides spring force and damping force, the operation of the shaking table is taken as dynamic loads exerted on the foundation; the simulation results with this model agree well with the measured ones. From the displacement amplitude-frequency response curve of the foundation of the shaking table obtained with the sweeping tests, the natural frequencies of the foundation was determined. The test results showed that when the table surface's acceleration is 1.5 g, the ground surface of the foundation and the inside of the lab only has an acceleration of 5 gal, the laetter is less than 0.4% of the former; the vibration attenuation from the foundation to surrounding fields versus distance obeys an exponential law, the vibration generally does not have a worse effect on people health and building safety in surrounding fields. © 2016, Editorial Office of Journal of Vibration and Shock.
