The kinematics of the quantum theory were built up from the information-theoretical principles. A measure of the classical information gained from a measurement on a quantum system was introduced. It was shown that the invariant information was related to the problem of the estimation of a quantum state. The difference between estimated state and the true state was quantified in the sense of the Hilbert-Schmidt norm.
