摘要：

The concept of ethics and standards in relation with the engineering services is discussed. It is argued that standards can be objectively met and do not require a commitment to the underlying principles. Highly specified tenders, which are considered as another form of standard, significantly reduce the opportunity for innovation in engineering solutions. Outcomes that meet the specification are now considered adequate. Price becomes key in tendering and low-cost operators enjoy the advantage of it.
