Problems in improvement in quality of steel by means of its ladle treatment have been considered. Processing of steel with the use of cored wire, slag-forming mixtures, synthetic slags, inert gases, and vacuum equipment has been discussed. Methods of material saving and energy saving have been described. Efficient refining of steels of 10sp, 23Kh2G2T, 60S2G, and other grades has been considered. Casting of steel at continuous caster after its ladle treatment has been discussed. Application of ladle metallurgy units at basic oxygen converter shops and electric arc furnace shops has been described. Utilization of modern refractory materials in ladle metallurgy units has been shown.
