Published at first only on an irregular basis; Humanities soon began to be issued bimonthly and distributed free to all individuals or institutions who placed their names on the mailing list. The intent of the newsletter was to inform the public of projects supported by the NEH and to stimulate additional grant proposals. 3 In the late 1970s the newsletter abruptly ceased publication;
