Transverse track effects of double-bolts on shear resistances in discontinuous rock mass

The influences of double bolts reinforcement patterns and lithology on the transverse track effects of bolts and shear resistances of discontinuous rock mass were investigated by both numerical analyses and physical tests. It is found that bigger diameter of first sustained force bolt has smaller stress, strain and failure zone of rock mass. Bigger first sustained force bolt can enhance higher strength of jointed rock mass than other schemes, thus having obvious reinforcement effect. Further, higher elastic modulus of rock mass can enlarge the horizontal separation displacement of joint plane, and the track effects of the double-boltsare more obvious. However, this enhancement for the shear strength of rock mass is limited to a certain extent. It is also found that laboratory test results are in agreement with numerical simulations, thus the tests are suitable for modeling transverse track effects of double bolts in jointed rock masses. © 2018, Editorial Board of Journal of Mining & Safety Engineering.
