Austria's Mayr-Melnholf (M-M) has unveiled plans to close the Colthrop board mill in the UK. The company said the continuing strength of the UK currency over the past few years has attracted increased imports from Europe. In the meantime, prices have decreased, while local production costs have reached such a high level that the company can no longer manufacture recycled cartonboard competitively in the UK. The Austrian firm has not yet fixed a date for the closure or decided whether it will sell the equipment from the plant.
