Study of the recovery in aged Mg-Dy alloys

A decomposition process of solid solution of Dy in Mg and Dy dissolution in solid Mg are controlled by measuring specific resistivity and hardness of Mg-23.6% Dy alloy. The specimens are treated for recovery at different temperatures (225-300°C) after aging at 200°C for 100 h up to hardness maximum. It is found that the recovery degree and accompanied softening of alloy increase with the rise of temperature of treatment after aging. The repeated aging provides newly alloy hardening up to Post-quenching level.
