Simplified calculation method of symmetrically reinforced concrete columns strengthened with angle steel under small eccentric compression

In “code for design of strengthening concrete structure (GB50367-2013)”, the flexural bearing capacity formula of compression columns strengthened with angle steel is complicated and inconvenient to use. A linear fitting simplified method was presented. This method simplified calculation formula of section resistance moment coefficient into linear function with compression depth, and thus a quadratic equation does not need to be solved. The maximum relative error between calculated value by the proposed formulas and theoretical analysis value of section resistance moment coefficient is 5.83%, which indicates that its calculated result is considerably close to theoretical results. The computed angle steel with the proposed method is in good agreement with the experimental results, meeting the requirement of engineering design. The method can be used to design concrete structure strengthened with angle steel. © 2017, Editorial Board of Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. All right reserved.
