摘要
A series of water-swellable rubbers (WSRs) were prepared by blending nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), crosslinked sodium polyacrylate (CSP), and nano-montmorillonite (nano-OMMT) as reinforcing fillers. The morphologies of the synthesized WSRs were characterized by SEM, and their mechanical properties and water-swelling behaviors were determined. The results demonstrated that the addition of nano-OMMT can significantly increase the mechanical strength of WSR before and after water swelling, improve the dispersion of CSP particles in the NBR, and reduce the mass loss ratio of WSR. In addition, the effects of nano-OMMT content on water-swelling ratio by mass of WSR were investigated, and water-swelling behaviors of WSR in different swelling media (acid, alkaline, saline solution, and deionized water at higher temperature) were also studied. © 2016, Materials Review Magazine.
