Strength calculation method of eccentric-high order elliptical bevel gear pair

Combined with differential geometry and spatial gear meshing theories, the spatial pitch curves of eccentric-high order elliptical bevel gear pair are flattened onto a plane in condition of equal radius of curvature and the calculation formulas of equivalent pitch curves are derived, the press angle in the transmission process is acquired. The force analysis of tooth is performed and a method to calculate the strength of eccentric-high order elliptical bevel gear pair is established, then the variation regulation of contact and bending stresses that change with rotation angle of driving gear is acquired. The position of the weakest tooth in the meshing process is determined and the effect of structure parameters on tooth strength is analyzed, including driving gear's eccentricity ratio, module, number of driving gear teeth and order of driven gear. The finite element analysis model of eccentric-high order elliptical bevel gear is established and the solid model is manufactured with five-axis numerical controlled machine, then the experimental transmission platform is constructed, so the strength calculation method is verified through finite element analysis and transmission experiment. © 2013 Journal of Mechanical Engineering.
