摘要
The failure pressure of pipelines with irregular-shaped defects was studied with solid finite element models. The irregular-shaped defects are composed of shallow patches and deep defects, and the deep corrosion defects are included in the shallow corrosion patches. The effects of the axial spacing and dimensions of deep defects on the failure pressure of irregular-shaped defects were analyzed. Based on the effective depth of equivalent shape of irregular-shaped defects, a new method was proposed for predicting the failure pressure of pipelines with irregular-shaped defects. The results show that the increase of axial spacing of deep defects will increase the failure pressure of pipelines with irregular-shaped defects, and the increase of depth and length of the deep defects will reduce the failure pressure, while the width of the deep defect has no effect on the failure pressure. The predictions of burst capacity based on the new method of the pipelines with irregular-shaped defects are in good agreement with experimental results for different steel grades. © 2022 University of Petroleum, China.
