Electrical transport through single-molecule junctions: From molecular orbitals to conduction channels

摘要
An atomistic theory that bridged traditional concepts of mesoscopic and molecular physics was presented to describe transport through single organic molecules. Conduction channels that arose from the molecular orbitals and elucidated the contributions of individual orbitals to the current was demonstrated. The results suggested that in thiol-bridged aromatic molecules, even a single conduction channel comprised of the tails of many electronic levels.
