Process stability analysis during tandem wire arc welding

Experimental work was carried out to investigate the tandem wire arc welding process. The welding parameters were developed using criteria applied for pulsed-current single wire GMAW. The stability of both processes (single wire and tandem wire GMAW) was assessed using indices calculated from the statistical features of the welding current and voltage. The results showed that pulse parameters for a stable tandem wire welding process could be defined based on the criteria for single wire pulsed current GMAW. However, some of the parameter criteria may need to be modified. The indices method allows a quantitative analysis of the process performance and can be used for assessing the stability of tandem wire welding.
