Review on China's Subgrade Engineering Research•2021

As the foundation of the pavement structure, a stable, strong and durable subgrade plays a key role in the quality protection of pavement. However, the phenomenon of paying attention to road surface but neglecting subgrade has existed in China for a long time, and makes it very common that the subgrade diseases lead to the destruction of pavement structure. Based on the subgrade engineering in recent years related the technical innovation contents of the China's National Science and Technology Award, the projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the excellent Chinese authoritative journals, and the highly cited papers in Web of Science (WoS), this review paper systematically analyzes the research status and future development direction of 5 major fields of pavement engineering in China and abroad. This content includes advanced foundation treatment technology, embankment filling engineering properties, embankment structural performance evolution under multi-field coupling action, cutting slope stability analysis, subgrade retaining and protection. Overall, this review paper is able to provide references and insights for researchers and engineers in the field of subgrade engineering. © 2021, Editorial Department of China Journal of Highway and Transport.
